You may have noticed the target pools are organized into Levels. They are not arbitrary, and they are not just the same thing over and over with a bigger number on it. Each level is a deliberate step up in the skill it asks of you — and there is a reason it is built that way.
Think of it like learning a language
If you have ever used something like Duolingo, you know the shape of it: you start with the simplest building blocks — a few clear, concrete, unmistakable pieces — and only once those are solid do you move toward nuance, subtlety, and the deep structure underneath. No one starts a beginner on idioms and poetry. You lay a foundation first, then drill into finer and finer detail.
The Levels work the same way. The early rungs give you the clearest impressions to lock onto — the equivalent of those first unmistakable words. Higher rungs gradually ask for finer discrimination, steadier signal, and the ability to stay with an impression when it is subtle or easy to confuse. The climb is the curriculum.
Why escalate at all?
- Build reliable signal before you stress it. Calibration comes from clean reads on approachable targets first. Skill grounded there holds up when things get harder.
- Each level trains a different muscle. Acquiring an impression, holding it steady, and telling two close possibilities apart are distinct abilities — the ladder lets you develop them in turn rather than all at once.
- Stay challenged, not overwhelmed. The aim is the sweet spot where it is hard enough to grow but not so hard you lose the thread — the same reason a good course never throws everything at you on day one.
- Progress you can feel. Moving up a level is a real marker that your foundation is solid enough to carry more.
How to use it
Spend real time at a level before you climb. The goal is not to race to the top — it is to build something that lasts at each rung, the way fluency is built one layer at a time. When a level starts to feel natural, the next one is waiting.
We will keep extending the ladder over time, each new level reaching a little further into the deep end. We are intentionally not publishing the character of individual pools — knowing what to expect would quietly shape what you perceive, and the whole point is a clean, blind read. So trust the order, and trust the climb.
